What is Shamanism?
Shamanism is the most ancient spiritual practice known to humankind. As a method, it is form of meditation combined with a focused intention. As a spiritual practice, shamanism can become a way of life that may utterly transform the one who practices it.
— From Awakening to the Spirit World, Sandra Ingerman & Hank Wesselman
In Sandra Ingerman’s book, Soul Retrieval, she shares that shaman’s believe all things to be indwelled by Spirit. Every element on earth is believed to possess its own life force. The health of every element is fully dependent upon possessing spiritual harmony with other elements or life forms.
How Does Shamanism Work?
A shamanic practitioner journeys in an altered state of consciousness to non-ordinary reality. The work literally means, “One who sees in the dark.”
A shaman is able to “see” or “know” what is not visible, apparent or sensed in the normal realm.
The shamanic practitioner communicates one-to-one with their spirit helpers and experiences direct revelation. They are able to access direct knowledge, insight, wisdom, answers, healing energy and guidance firsthand.
Shamanism was practiced in every occupied continent.
What is so powerful about shamanism is that when a person compassionately works to relieve the suffering or to help achieve the highest good on behalf of another, the helping spirits or spirit allies partner to achieve the highest outcomes.

Zoom allows us to record your session when you want to have it for future reference. You can use zoom from your desktop or laptop or you may download their app for your mobile device.
Google Hangouts doesn’t yet provide an easy recording option.
How Long Does it Take to See Results?
In personal shamanic work, healing or results can happen in as little as one session. However, while a healing can often occur in a single session, it is the work the client does after the session that supports the degree to which the healing is experienced and successful.
Following shamanic work, the client may need to make changes in their habits, their environment or their lifestyle in order to maximize the desired result.
When we come into this body, we come with ego. Life requires constant change. The ego holds onto pain, fear, hurt, definitions we perceive to be true. In order for healing to be effective, these things must be released so that our whole body, mind and spirit may evolve.
Pain, fear, hurt, old self-defining beliefs create energy. When they are held onto, they get stuck. This stagnate energy creates depression and dis-ease. Depression and dis-ease replace harmony.
Where an absence of harmony exists, illness manifests – whether spiritual, emotional or physical.
To support healing that occurs in a session, the client may have to make shifts in their everyday life to support the evolution and growth that can now take place
What is Soul Loss?
Let’s start with the definition of soul. The Oxford English Dictionary refers to the word soul as “the principle of life, commonly regarded as an entity distinct from the body; the spiritual parts in contrast to the purely physical.” The English language also regards the soul as the seat of the emotions, feelings, or sentiments.
I’ll refer to soul here, to mean our vital essence.
A common cause of illness is soul loss. One does not lose their entire soul. However, traumatic experiences can cause a part of our vital essence to separate from us in order to survive the experience by escaping the full impact of the pain.
Soul loss is a spiritual illness that causes emotional or physical disease. The shamanic practitioner diagnoses and treats soul loss, divines information, and communicates and interacts with the spirit world to retrieve or recover loss soul essessences.
What Are Some Examples of Soul Loss?
Soul loss can occur at the time of trauma. What is experienced as trauma for one individual, may not be experienced as trauma for another.
There are many events that can cause soul loss. Some common causes of the loss of part of our vital essence are:
- Sexual abuse
- Physical abuse
- Domestic violence
- The end of a meaningful relationship
- The death of a loved one
- Emotional trauma
- Spiritual trauma
- Feeling unloved or abandoned
- A shocking or painful accident
- Chronic or traumatic illness
What are the Symptoms of Soul Loss?
Parts of your vital essence may leave the body to survive a traumatic event. The traumatized individual’s soul essence literally escapes to survive the event.
Imbalances or absences of the spiritual essence in a living being can cause debilitation and disease.
Some of the symptoms people experience are:
- Not feeling all here
- Not connecting with emotional feelings
- Feeling fragmented
- Feeling that an essential part of you is missing
- Feeling dissociated
- A sense of being ungrounded
- Sense of being stuck in the past
- Gaps or blocks in memory
- Inability to remember a traumatic event or the details that surround it
- Inability to release emotional trauma
- Chronic depression
- Loss of a sense of purpose
- Chronic sense of being unfulfilled
- Chronic physical illness
- Dispirited, sense of aimlessness
- Emotional numbness
- Lack of vitality and connectedness to life
- Feelings of shame
What is Soul Retrieval or Soul Recovery?
Shamans see illness as a spiritual condition. Shamans believe that a loss of part of one’s vital essence or a loss of essential spiritual energy is the source of most illness and feelings of dis-ease.
For reasons we don’t understand, the part of the soul that left, often fails to return. Soul retrieval or soul recovery will deepen one’s connection to herself, to her loved ones and to the world around them.
If the shaman is able to retrieve lost soul parts, harmony can be restored and well-being returns.
Soul retrieval is possible in a single session.
Soul retrieval does not involve reliving a traumatic experience. During the soul retrieval session, the client will sit or lay down in a comfortable position and remain awake and conscious.
The shamanic practitioner enters an altered state of consciousness and works with her spirit helpers to identify the soul essences that are ready to return at that time. Once the practitioner retrieves the soul essences, she blows them back into the person through their heart chakra.
The client remains in their comfortable position for a short while longer, after which, the practitioner finishes by sealing the body in ceremony. When the client is ready, they will sit up and the practitioner will share what was learned, including the qualities and gifts that returned with the soul essence.
How long does a Soul Retrieval Session Take?
Two hours are typically scheduled for a soul retrieval session.
Do You Have Events For the Public?
At the time of this writing, we are in the process of establishing a Meetup.com group in Indianapolis, IN. We’ll update this information when it is live.
The purpose of the Meetup is to teach shamanic practices that lead to empowerment, spiritual evolvement, healing and to share wisdom. Participants will learn shamanic journey skills, including how to meet and work with their personal spirit allies.
This group will be open to a diverse group of supportive women who wish to explore and evolve their personal spiritual path. Participants follow many spiritual paths and range in age from young adults to great grandmothers. Prior shamanic journey experience is not required – we will teach you the basics.
We’ll cover new topics, sessions will include spiritual drumming and rattling journeys and ceremonies. Our discussion topics are broad-ranging, including such subjects as shamanic dreaming methods, healing light work, working with nature spirits, soul retrieval, and many others.
